Labels On Your Clothes Which You Should Know

There are more and more labels on clothes, sewn, printed, hang, etc., so what does it really tell us, what do we need to know? Here is a systematic answer for you!
Hello, everyone. Today, I would like to share with you some knowledge about clothing labels. It is very practical.

When shopping for clothes, we can always see all kinds of labels, all kinds of materials, all kinds of languages, all kinds of high-end, atmosphere and grade design, and it seems that the more expensive clothes seem to have more labels, the more delicate, so what exactly do these labels want to tell us, and what do we need to know?

Today to share with you about clothing tag, next time buy clothes, know what need to look at, represent what meaning, and what are the label is not specification, also can give some seemingly very professional guide in a lesson, not to see a bunch of tags, conveniently just quietly put down, don’t know what to see, can not get effective information.
1. What is the “label” on clothes?
The term on the label of clothing is called “instructions for Use”, which should comply with the mandatory national standard GB 5296.4-2012 “Instructions for Use of Consumer Goods part 4: Textiles and Apparel (the 2012 edition is about to be revised), provides users with information on how to use products correctly and safely, as well as related functions and basic properties of products, in various forms such as instructions, labels, nameplates, etc.

There are three common clothing labels, hanging tags, stitched labels (or printed on clothes) and instructions attached to some products.

Hangtags are generally a series of strip tags, paper, plastic and so on form some brand will specialise in design, looks more elegant, give a person the first feeling is more high-end, tag with brand logo, the article number, standards or some information such as brand slogan, product selling point, now a lot of tags will have on the rfid chip, Scanning can provide detailed information about your clothes or security, so you can tear them apart the next time you buy them.

Sewing label is sewn on clothes seamline label, the term is called the “label” durability (permanently attached on the product, and can keep clear, easy to read) in the process of product use, also because of the durability of the label attribute, determines its important for consumers, general design is concise, most seam on the top, bottom side line (is the left bottom, don’t turn back and forth clothes I can’t find it). The pants are under the waistline. Before, many clothes would be sewn under the neckline, but it would tie the neck, so now most of them are changed under the side of the clothes.

There are also some textiles that come with additional instructions, usually functional textiles, that describe the specific features of the product, such as cooling blankets, jackets, etc., whereas ordinary textiles come with less.

2. What does the tag want to tell us?

According to the requirements of GB 5296.4(PRC National Standard), the information on textile clothing labels includes 8 categories: 1. Name and address of manufacturer, 2. Name of product, 3. Size or specification, 4. Fiber composition and content, 5. Maintenance method, 6. product standards implemented 7 Safety categories 8 precautions for use and storage, this information may be in one or more label forms.

Manufacturer’s name and address, product name, implemented product standard, safety category, use and storage precautions are generally in the form of tags. Durability labels must be used for size and specifications, fiber composition and content, and maintenance methods, because these contents are very important to the user in the subsequent use, commonly in the form of stitched labels and printing.

3. what content should we focus on?
There are so many clothes on the label, when shopping for clothes is not necessary to spend a lot of time to read all the information, after all, should pay attention to time management, so the name of the manufacturer, for example, the information is not important for ordinary consumers do not need to carefully to see, here is my summary of the comparison of the key information, some of them are often we see, But it’s not clear what it means.

1) product safety category, is we often see on the tag A, B, C, this is in accordance with the strong standard GB 18401 《China National Basic Safety Technical Code for Textile Products》division.

Products for infants and toddlers must meet category A requirements, and clothing for infants and toddlers must be labeled “Products for infants and toddlers,” referring to products worn or used by infants and toddlers 36 months and younger. There are strong standard GB 31701-2015 “Safety technical Specifications for Infants and children textile Products” for infants and children products, must conform to, infants and children clothing as far as possible to buy light color, simple structure, natural fiber.

Direct contact with the skin is at least class B, direct contact with the skin refers to the product in the process of using a large area of contact with the human body, such as summer T-shirts, underwear and underwear.

Non-direct contact with skin is at least class C. Non-direct contact refers to direct contact with human skin, or a small area of contact with human body, such as down jacket, cotton jacket and so on.

So in the purchase of clothes to be appropriate, such as for infants must be class A, buy A summer T-shirt must be class B and above, the safety category must pay attention to.

2) executive standard, the product is to be implemented by all the production standard, specific content for ordinary consumers don’t need to look at, as long as there is ok, the national standard is GB/T (GB/recommendation), the line mark is generally FZ/T (textile/recommendation), some products also have local standards (DB), or for the record the enterprise standard (Q) of production, all of these are possible. Some of the implementation of product standards will be divided into excellent products, first-class products, qualified products three grades, excellent products the best, here and the previous mentioned A, B, C class safety grade is not A concept.

3) The size and specification are printed on the durability label. As mentioned above, they are usually stitched on the lower left side of the clothes. For size setting, please refer to GB/T 1335 “Garment Size” and GB/T 6411 “Knitted Underwear Size Series”.

4) Fiber composition and content are printed on the durability label. This part is a little professional, but there is no need to tangle and popularize the classification of fiber. Fibers can be classified into natural fibers and chemical fibers.
Common natural fibers such as cotton, wool, silk, hemp, etc.
Chemical fibers can be divided into regenerative fibers, synthetic fibers andinorganic fibers.

Regenerated fiber and “artificial fiber” is the same category of two names, such as regenerated cellulose fiber, regenerated protein fiber, common viscose fiber, Modal, Lessel, bamboo pulp fiber, etc. belong to this category, are generally underwear and other personal products with more, feel better but the moisture return rate is higher.

Synthetic fiber refers to the oil, natural gas and other raw materials through polymerization made of fiber, polyester fiber (polyester), polyamide fiber (polyamide), acrylic, spandex, vinylon and other belong to this category, is also very common in clothing.

Inorganic fiber refers to the fiber made of inorganic materials or carbon-based polymers. It is not common in general clothing, but is often used in functional clothing. For example, the metal fiber containing some radiation resistant clothing worn by pregnant women belongs to this category.

Summer t-shirts are generally more cotton, spandex elastic high cost, so it will be more expensive
All kinds of fiber in the role of clothing is not the same there is no comparability, there is no way to say which must be better than another, for example, in the last century we all think chemical fiber is better, because durable, now everyone thinks natural fiber is better, because comfortable and healthy, different angles do not have comparability.

5) maintenance method, is also printed on the durability label, tell the user how to clean, such as washing dry cleaning conditions and so on, summer clothes are relatively easy to say, winter clothes need to look carefully, is the need to wash or dry cleaning, this part of the content is generally expressed in symbols and words, According to the standard GB/T 8685-2008 textile Maintenance Label Code Symbol Law, the common symbols are listed as follows:

2

Washing instructions

3

Dry cleaning instructions

4

Dry Instructions

5

Bleach Instructions

6
Ironing Instructions

4. minimalist summary, how to look at clothing labels when shopping

If you don’t have time to read it carefully, here are the steps to read labels efficiently when shopping for clothes:

1) first pick up the tag, look at the safety category, that is, A, B, C, infants must be A class, direct contact with skin B and above, non direct contact C and above. (The safety level is generally on the tag. The specific definition of direct contact and indirect contact is described in detail in 1 of the preceding three.)

2) or tag, see the implementation of the standard, it is ok, if the implementation of the standard is graded, will continue to mark superior products, first-class products or qualified products, superior products the best. (The main content of the tag is finished.)

3) look at the durability label, the position of the general coat is in the left swing seam (generally left, running to the left basically no problem), the lower clothing is generally in the head of the bottom edge or side seam skirt, side seam pants, (1) look at the size, to determine whether there is a wrong size, (2) look at the fiber composition, roughly understand it is good, Generally containing wool, cashmere, silk, spandex, some modified fiber will be relatively expensive, (3) to see the maintenance method, mainly to see whether dry cleaning can be washed, can air these. Follow these three steps and you’ll have information that’s important to you from the piles of labels on a piece of clothing.

Ok, all the information about clothing labels is basically here. Next time you buy clothes, you can directly follow the steps to know the product information faster and more professional.
